UPDATE: November (and DECEMBER!) Classes in Rockport, TX

Harvey may have destroyed our beloved Art Center in Rockport, TX, but “the show must go on!”

I was scheduled to offer a 6-week class at Rockport Center for the Arts starting in September. Hurricane Harvey had other plans. The good news is that the Arts Center has a space that will be up and running and classes are returning in November. To make things easier for residents who may not have their lives back to “normal” – I’ll be doing a drop-in class and a series of one-day workshops. Here’s what to expect – I hope you’ll join me.

COLLAGE EXPLORATION

Students will explore hand-cut paper and mixed media collage using a variety of techniques and materials. We will explore scale, color, composition, thematic work, texture, layers, and abstract collage, working in a range of styles and with a wide assortment of materials.

EXTENDED – TUESDAYS THRU DECEMBER 19TH

BOOK-BASED COLLAGE

In this four-hour workshop, students create hand-cut paper and mixed media collage using a variety of techniques and materials. All projects will use book covers and pages, which will be provided – feel free to bring your own old paperbacks, hardcovers or pages if you have any favorites. These upcycled artworks will make use of discarded or damaged books. Each student will leave with several book-based collages.

JUNK ART OWLS

In this four-hour workshop, students will create a three-dimensional owl sculpture or wall hanging from found objects and old, broken “junk”. Basic materials, adhesives, paints, and a whole host of rusted, broken, found objects will be provided, along with ideas and inspiration for creatively re-using old items and turning them into unique one of a kind art!

COLLAGE TECHNIQUES WITH CITRASOLV WORKSHOP

In this four-hour workshop, students will create unique images and patterns using Citrasolv and National Geographic magazines. These backgrounds will be great, one of a kind backgrounds for collage and mixed media works. We will experiment with this technique and some image transfers, as well.  Bring a National Geographic magazine or two if you have any. Be prepared to get messy – aprons and disposable gloves recommended!

VINTAGE HOLIDAY MIXED MEDIA COLLAGES

In this four-hour workshop, students will create one of a kind mixed media collages while learning a variety of techniques. These holiday wall hangings have multiple layers and a vintage finish. Each student will leave with two ready-to-hang mixed media collages.

VINTAGE HOLIDAY COLLAGE CARDS AND ORNAMENTS

In this four-hour workshop, students will create one of a kind mini collages while learning a variety of techniques. These holiday collages with a vintage feel can be used on greeting cards or hanging ornaments. Each student will leave with several completed cards (with envelopes) and ornaments that are ready for holiday décor or gift giving.
